Letter to the Editor: The Imperative of Renaming Polycystic Ovary Syndrome to Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome

The historical renaming of "Polycystic Ovary Syndrome" (PCOS) to "Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome" (PMOS) represents the outcome of a global, multi-stage consensus process, which accurately reflects the complex, multisystemic, and metabolic nature of this disorder. Within this novel framework, the term "polycystic" has been deliberately eliminated. The primary objectives of this terminological revision are to reduce the rates of delayed diagnosis, to integrate multidisciplinary care pathways, and to alleviate social stigmas, all to be achieved through a managed transitional program.
