Strengthening and Retention of Research Faculty in Iran’s Health System (Policy Brief)

Research and technology in the Iranian health system faces the challenge of weakening and reducing the retention of research faculty members. Job insecurity, low salaries and benefits, limited research resources, and a weak system of honor and evaluation have reduced the motivation and productivity of this key group, leading to burnout and elite migration. Since research faculty members are the main engine of science production, technology development, and impactful research in the health system, maintaining and strengthening this human capital is of strategic importance for improving the quality of health services and scientific progress in the country. Based on international experiences, implementing policies such as job security and stability, improving living conditions, establishing fair scientific evaluation systems, and developing research infrastructure are recommended as priority measures to strengthen motivation, increase retention, and improve research performance.
