Abstract:   (55947 Views)

History and Objectives: Nocturia is one of the most prevalent and complicated problems of infants. Due to various success rates of different therapies and ease of imipramine and desmopressin treatment, this study was conducted in order to compare the therapeutic effect of these 2 agents among patients referred to a private clinic in Kashan in 1996.

Materials and Methods: An experimental study was designed to study 46 infants of age 5-13 suffering from primary nocturia. Patients were randomly divided into two groups of 23 one group received imipramine tables (1 mg/kg) every night for 4 weeks and the second group received nasal drops of desmopressin in 20?g and if the therapy was unsuccessful, 40?g of desmopressin for 2 weeks was followed. The effect of two therapies on primary nocturia was followed for 2 weeks and compare by chi-square method.

Results: Patients were selected to have little personal variation. Therapeutic effect of imipramine and desmopressin was 48 and 87%, which was statistically significant (P<0.01).

Conclusion: In light of higher therapeutic effect of desmopressin, in this study and in similar investigations, it is suggested that desmopressin should be used and further research is need to follow the outcome of the disease after discontinuation of desmopressin therapy.
