Abstract:   (280 Views)
Background and Aim: Obesity is associated with structural and functional impairments in the nervous system, including reduced nerve conduction velocity and morphological changes in neurons. This study aimed to investigate the effect of an eight-week endurance training program on the expression of neuregulin 1 and agrin genes in the brain tissue of obese male Wistar rats.
Methods: In this experimental study, 20 male Wistar rats with a mean body weight of 349.44 ± 41.68 grams were procured. Following acclimatization to the laboratory environment, the rats were randomly assigned to two groups: an endurance training group and a control group. Two rats from the control group were excluded due to illness or injury. The experimental group underwent endurance training for eight weeks, with five sessions per week at an intensity of 70–80% of maximum speed. Brain tissue sampling and blood collection were performed 48 hours after the final training session. The expression levels of neuregulin 1 and agrin genes were quantified using Real-Time PCR.
Results: The eight-week endurance training program significantly increased neuregulin 1 gene expression (P = 0.001) and significantly decreased agrin gene expression (P = 0.001) in the experimental group compared to the control group.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that an eight-week endurance training regimen may induce positive changes in factors influencing the nervous system under conditions of obesity.
