Abstract:   (402 Views)
Background and Aim: Preterm birth is considered the leading cause of neonatal mortality. This study aimed to determine the frequency of preterm delivery in singleton pregnancies and the associated factors among deliveries at Shahid Beheshti Hospital in Kashan during 2020-2021.
Methods: A descriptive study was conducted on 221 cases of preterm delivery and 221 cases of term delivery from 2020 to 2021. Data extracted from medical records included maternal and neonatal demographic and clinical characteristics. Data were analyzed by chi-square and t-tests using SPSS software. A significance level of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: The frequency of preterm delivery was 9.2%. Significant associations (P<0.05) were found between preterm delivery and factors such as maternal age <20 years, first pregnancy or parity >3, history of previous preterm delivery, hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, antepartum hemorrhage, and premature rupture of membranes. These factors were identified as significant contributors to preterm delivery.
Conclusion: The frequency of preterm delivery in Kashan is similar to national estimates in Iran. Identifying risk factors for preterm delivery can help prevent this condition and reduce associated treatment costs and neonatal complications.
Keywords: Preterm delivery, Term delivery, History of preterm delivery, Premature rupture of membranes, Associated factor
