The present study aimed to test the structural model of defeat, entrapment, depressive symptom-suicidality subscale and suicide attempt based on motivational-voluntary theory of suicidal behavior. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive modeling study and its statistical population consisted of all students studying at Mohaghegh Ardabili University in the academic year 1399. 650 people were selected by available sampling method. Data using scales of idea, suicide attempt, defeat, entrapment, interpersonal scale, anxiety, depression, disengagement scale, map scales, impulsivity, exposure, discomfort intolerance, ruminant, suicide capacity, and fearlessness about death was collected and SPSS-25 and pls-3 software were used for data analysis. Results: The data fit well with the proposed model and the existing model explained 36% defeat variance, 67% entrapment variance, 30% suicide idea variance and 42% suicide attempt variance. All proposed paths were positive and significant except for the relationship between exposure, practical capacity, fear of death and tolerance of confusion with neutral action and belonging and abandonment of the goal with the idea of other paths (P <0.05). The rumination variable modulated the relationship between failure and entrapment (P <0.05), also. Conclusion: These findings represent a preliminary step towards clarifying the transition from idea to suicide, as well as useful support for future research and intervention based on motivational-voluntary theory.
