Materials and Methods: This experimental research was conducted on 60 patients suffering from diabetes mellitus for at least on year. A Checklist including demographic and disease-related data were filled out for each patient. Then FBS (Fasting Blood Sugar) and Bs (5 PM) were evaluated in three consecutive days. The characteristics and complications of diabetes and the ways of its control were taught via face to face interview during two weeks. After 3 months, again the checklist was filled out and FBS and BS (5 PM) were evaluated in three consecutive days. Data analysis was performed by McNemar's test. Results: 60 patients including 41.6% male and 58.3% female, aged between 22 and 60 years were studied. Duration of disease was between 1 and 15 years. The frequency of abnormal FBS and BS decreased from 95% to 48.3% (P< 0.0001) and from 91% to 71.6% (P< 0.0001), respectively. Conclusion: It seems that teaching diabetic patients about their illness is useful in control of disease.
