Empowering the Healthcare Team in Antibiotic Stewardship: The Strategic Role of Hospital Libraries in Health Policymaking
Alireza Yavar * , Maryam Ghanbari Khoshnood
, Yavarmgh800@gmail.com
Abstract:   (13 Views)
Executive Summary:
(Addressed to the Ministry of Health and Medical Education and health policymakers)
  • Problem: Antimicrobial resistance is one of the greatest threats to health systems, largely driven by irrational prescribing by the healthcare team.
  • Gap: Despite the vast volume of scientific evidence, the healthcare team faces significant challenges in timely access to and accurate interpretation of clinical information, while the role of hospital libraries in this process has been systematically overlooked.
  • Policy options:
    1. Conducting interprofessional training workshops led by medical librarians;
    2. Integrating clinical information alert services, supported by librarians, into hospital information systems;
    3. Establishing local antibiotic resistance databases.
  • Final recommendation: Establish an official position and dedicated budget for hospital libraries and clinical librarians within antimicrobial stewardship committees and interprofessional education programs.
