Sexual quality of life in patients with cardiovascular diseases: a policy brief

Abstract:   (35 Views)
Impaired sexual quality of life in patients with cardiovascular diseases exhibits high prevalence and exerts a profound negative impact on their overall quality of life and mental health. However, this issue is frequently overlooked within the healthcare system due to barriers such as clinical silence (therapeutic silence), insufficient training of healthcare professionals, and the absence of localized clinical guidelines. This policy brief underscores the necessity for systematic action by highlighting the bidirectional biological and psychological interconnection between cardiac and sexual health.
Key recommendations are proposed across four levels: 1) Macro-level Policy: Development of national guidelines and expansion of insurance coverage for sexual counseling services. 2) System Development: Integration of sexual health education into medical science curricula and establishment of multidisciplinary clinics. 3) Service Delivery: Implementation of screening protocols and structured educational programs for patients and their spouses in cardiac rehabilitation centers. 4) Research: Generation of localized evidence through defining national research priorities and supporting epidemiological and interventional studies.
The ultimate objective is to institutionalize a comprehensive approach that embeds sexual health as an integral component of cardiac patient management, thereby promoting patient dignity and enhanced quality of life.
