Background and Aim:Postpartum depression is a type of depression that can have many negative effects on the mother and the newborn child. As a result, it is important to examine various factors affecting it. Therefore, the current study was conducted with the aim of investigating the moderating role of self-compassion in the relationship between fear of body image and postpartum depression Methods:The present study was of a correlational type. The statistical population of this research was mothers with newborns up to one year old in Tehran in 2024, of which 170 mothers were selected by available sampling method. Mothers completed demoghraghic, postpartum depression questionnaires, fear of body image, and self-compassion. Data analysis was also done by Pearson correlation method and path analysis using spss v.26 software. Results: According to the results, there was a positive and significant relationship between fear of body image and postpartum depression (P=0.001, r= 0.51). Also, there is a negative and significant relationship between self-compassion and postpartum depression (r=-0.57, P<0.01) and self-compassion and fear of body image (r=-0.56, P<0.01). Self-compassion did not play a moderating role in the relationship between fear of body image and postpartum depression (P=0.53). Conclusion: Based on the findings, the self-compassion can play an important role in reducing the fear of body image and postpartum depression, but it does not have the enough power to reduce the negative effect of fear of severe body image on postpartum depression. Key words: postpartum depression, fear of body image, self-compassion
